Welche Bilder hat Venedig seit Jahrhunderten in der Welt verbreitet, welche Vorstellungen und Erwartungen ausgelöst und wie prägen diese Bilder und Erwartungen die Stadt Venedig heute?
Seit 25 Jahren fotografiert die Berliner Künstlerin Stefanie Bürkle bei ihren Reisen Venedig. 2022-2025 realisierte sie Imaginationen Venedigs, ein künstlerisches Forschungsprojekt, als Teil des Sonderforschungsbereichs Re-Figuration von Räumen an der TU Berlin.
Die Künstlerin versteht die eigene Bildproduktion als Teil der globalen Zirkulation von Bildern, ein Loop, in dem Venedig als Projektionsfolie für vielfältige Raumimaginationen fixiert, reproduziert, reduziert und multipliziert wird.
Mit Venice BeReal präsentiert Stefanie Bürkle nun erstmals Ergebnisse des Projektes. Dabei steht ihr Venedig-Atlas, ein künstlerisches Venedig-Bild-Archiv aus über 1.000 Bildern, im Zentrum der Ausstellung.
Neben analogen und digitalen Fotografien geben Videoausschnitte aus Projektinterviews Einblicke in Venedigs Wirklichkeiten. Eine zentrale Videoarbeit transzendiert das künstlerische Archiv aus Stefanie Bürkles Atelier mitten unter die Besuchenden in den Ausstellungsraum.

Künstlerin:
Stefanie Bürkle ist Künstlerin und Professorin für Bildende Kunst an der TU Berlin.
Als Künstlerin und Stadtforscherin initiiert sie eigene Kunst- und Forschungsprojekte. Hierbei untersucht sie urbane Themen wie Stadt als Baustelle, Künstliche Welten, Fassade – Architektur, Migration von Raum mit unterschiedlichen Medien wie Malerei, Fotografie und Video. Ihre transdisziplinären Arbeiten verbinden Kunst mit Kulturwissenschaften und Forschung. Die kritische Auseinandersetzung mit der üblichen Wahrnehmung von Stadt steht dabei immer im Zentrum. Durch die Integration von künstlerischen und wissenschaftlichen Methoden entstehen neue Lesarten von Projektionsflächen und den Räumen dahinter.

6.3. 19:00 Uhr Künstlergespräch (deutsch) mit David Wagner (Autor) und Stefanie Bürkle (Künstlerin). Istanbul und Venedig sind Schauplätze in Wagners aktuellem Roman Verkin. Wie begegnet uns Venedig in Form von Shoppingmalls, Casinos und Themenparks weltweit – und welche Venedigbilder werden dabei zitiert?

13.3. 19:00 Uhr Soziologen im Gespräch mit der Künstlerin (deutsch/ englisch) über Kapitalisierung und Digitalisierung des Raumes, airbnb, Google Maps und Co. Stefan Kirchner, Professor für Wirtschafts- und Arbeitssoziologie, BTU Cottbus, Ingo Schulz-Schaeffer, Professor für Technik- und Innovationssoziologie, TU Berlin und Stefanie Bürkle, Professorin für Bildende Kunst, TU Berlin, alle drei sind Mitglieder des Sonderforschungsbereichs (SFB 1265) Re-Figuration von Räumen.

20.3. 14:00-20:00 Uhr Präsentation spekulativer Venedigkarten (englisch) Internationale Architekturstudierende der TU Berlin haben ein Semester lang mit Stefanie Bürkle Venedig-Mappings und Venedig-Spiele entwickelt. Eine Präsentation dieser besonderen Karten gibt weitere Einblicke in das Kunst- und Forschungsprojekt über Venedig.

23.3. 15:00 Uhr Venedig-Soundwalk (deutsch) mit Louise Brenner auf dem Pfefferberg. 16:00-19:00 Uhr Finissage

Das Projekt ist Teil des Sonderforschungsbereichs Re-Figuration von Räumen (SFB 1265) an der TU Berlin, finanziert von der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG).

All the images Venice has spread around the world for centuries, what ideas and expectations has it triggered and how do these images and expectations shape the city of Venice today?
Berlin-based artist Stefanie Bürkle has been photographing Venice on her travels for the last 30 years. In 2022-2025, she realized Imaginations of Venice, an artistic research project as part of the CRC 1265 Re-Figuration of Spaces at the TU Berlin.
The artist sees her own image production as part of the global circulation of images, a loop in which Venice is fixed, reproduced, reduced and multiplied as a projection foil for diverse spatial imaginations. With Venice BeReal, she is now presenting the results of the project for the first time. Her Venice Atlas, an artistic archive of images of Venice, is at the core of the exhibition. In addition to analog and digital photographs, video excerpts from project interviews provide insights into Venice's realities. A central video work transcends the artistic archive from Stefanie Bürkle's studio into the exhibition space amidst the visitors.

Stefanie Bürkle is a German artist, known for her transdisciplinary work, blending art with cultural studies and research. As an artist and urban researcher, she initiates her own art and research projects. She investigates urban topics such as artificial worlds, façade architecture and migration of space using various media such as painting, photography and video. Her projects link art and science, always focusing on a critical examination of the usual perception of the city. The integration of artistic and scientific methods creates new ways of reading projection surfaces and the spaces behind them.

International students of architecture at TU Berlin have spent a semester developing Venice mappings and Venice games with Stefanie Bürkle. A presentation of these special maps provides further insights into the art and research project on Venice (English)
